Best Makeup for Covering Acne | Charlotte Tilbury, Stila, Chanel, Koh Gen Do #FOTD

Acne for Makeup

If there's one thing I've tried to perfect over the last few years of blogging, it would be my ability to correct skin tone, cover breakouts, and truly "highlight" the skin without adding too much product. I've always hated the feeling of thick makeup on my skin, and I find that powders are sometimes the culprit of that. Here's a classic Madeline makeup look using predominantly cream-based products to cover uneven skin tone and texture leaving me with a glowy visage. I'm also using a bunch of new favourites from Charlotte Tilbury, Stila,  Chanel, NYX, Benefit and Koh Gen Do.

Magic Away Concealer Review

Magic Away Concealer Shade 2 $38 CAD

I'm all about a multi-tasker, so I was stoked to realize that this concealer works just as well under the eyes as it does on blemishes. You can build up the Magic Away concealer very easily, and I find the shades to be so skin-like. This is the ideal product to keep in your handbag, since it can be used as a light wash of foundation in a pinch, layered throughout the day, and blended with the sponge applicator. It reminds me of the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind sponge-tip concealer, but not as drying. See swatches below for colour comparison on my hand.

charlotte genius magic powder review

Charlotte's Genius Magic Powder $59 CAD

Loose powder can be tricky to apply, but this one is completely fool-proof. The convenient lockable powder opening allows you to shake out some product, then close the opening to avoid spillage. I find this powder to be incredibly mattifying, and it locks in my makeup all day. It does not oxidize on me, and shade 1 is the perfect match.

Charlotte Tilbury Review Favorite products
The result of my makeup touch-up - honestly, this is my favourite makeup look ever !!

A few other faves from the brand that weren't used in this look are:

The Pretty Glowing Kit

An incredible 2-in-1 cheek product, this blush comes with an innovative "cheek hug" brush that contours to your cheekbone, artfully applying the dual-toned blush to amplify your natural lift. This is a LE item, so scoop one up quick!

The Pretty Glowing Kit Charlotte Tilbury

CHARLOTTE TILBURY Colour Chameleon Eyeshadow Pencil

I have used my Golden Quartz shade of this pencil almost in its entirety, and that NEVER happens. These shadow pencils will literally last an apocoylpse on your face (rain, swimming, sweat, oil) and have the most stunning pigment. Amber Haze is next on my list! Price is $32, and one pencil lasts forever.

CHARLOTTE TILBURY BIGGER BRIGHTER EYES EXAGGER-EYES

I've raved about this palette here before, and I'll say it again - you need to try one of Charlotte's shadow palettes. At $66 they are very expensive, but the payoff is outstanding and I would happily live with this palette only for the rest of my life. No jokes. Think glowy lids with incredible shimmer, just enough creamy matte and a delicious warm finish that makes your eye colour shine, centre stage.

CHARLOTTE TILBURY Legendary Lashes Volume 2 Mascara

If you want fabulous, drama-filled lashes that have a deep blackish-brown colour and a ton of lightweight volume, buy Legendary Lashes Vol 2! (NOT Vol 1). At $38, this is another super splurge, but my tube has lasted really really well. No flaking and only minor smudging here and there. If you need a cheaper fix, try L'Oreal Lash Paradise, I reviewed them both here and here.

STILA

Stila Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow Kitten

Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow/Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadows $24

These liquid shadows are truly iconic. With a mega-watt glow and an incredibly wearable foil-finish, I can't get enough. In the video I wore mine in Kitten sheered out, and in the photo below I captured my friend Kelly from Beauty by Birdy wearing Cloud as a 1-shadow look. See her review of this product here as well.

Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Review
In this swatch I mixed the purple shade from the Stila Vivid & Vibrant Collection with my Kitten shade. They're very blendable and versatile, but then they dry down to a budge-proof finish. Gorgeous!

Stila one step review
Kelly wearing "Cloud", and a swatch of my super cool colour correcting "One Step" primer

Stila One Step Correct Primer $36

This innovative, triple-swirled helix serum instantly primes, color-corrects, brightens and nourishes skin for a flawless face with no fuss. I love how it's both hydrating and a bit mattifying, while dulling any redness and calming breakouts before foundation.

Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Aqua Foundation $70

I've honestly never agreed with a product description more, so I'm just going to leave this here: The coveted Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation, known for giving skin the same youthful glow you experience right after a facial, is redesigned for increased coverage, radiance, hydration and longevity. Formulated with our signature Gloss Film Powder, the light-diffusing minerals brighten and minimize pores, while resisting sweat and oiliness. This breathable serum foundation contains weightless skin-conditioning emollients that improve the hydration and health of skin for a flawless and comfortable complexion all day. I can't wait to buy another bottle of this beauty.

Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzer $50

This foolproof cream bronzer adds so much warmth to the skin, and almost too much for me in the winter! The shade is quite orangey, but it is easy to sheer out so I keep it on hand all year 'round.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer $10

My mom got me this concealer in the UK, and I adore it! Cheap as chips, they say, and packed with pigment. Shade 1 is great for me and I especially love this under the eyes, around the nose and on my chin. I'll use it as a 1-and-done item if I need a quick pick-me-up look, pop on some cheek colour and mascara, then I'm good to go.

The Balm How 'Bout Them Apples? Cheek & Lip Palette $30

My cream blushes are all from The Balm's Apples palette, which I've depotted into a smaller MUFE customizable palette. These are fantastic cream blushes with very intense pigment and long wear time. Though this might be discontinued, it appears that some retailers still stock it.

Annabelle EYEINK2 LIQUID EYELINER DUO in Brown $10.95

By far my favourite warm brown liner, this dual-ended gem is a red-based brown and is felt tipped. I love how much product is in it, especially since there are two ends - one thin, one thick. It's a must have item for me, along with the Physician's Formula Eye Booster in brown, but that one is brush tip and a lot darker.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush $12.99

This brush is award-winning for a reason. It applies foundation and cream products beautifully, washes up well and doesn't break the bank. I keep its little sister, the mini multitasking brush in my handbag at all times, it's so good for on-touch upsouchups.

Revlon Contour Brush $8.07

I'm obsessed with this brush for powders. It has the perfect tulip shape that lays on face powder like a dream, but also blends in contour, blush or highlight effortlessly over the cheeks. Soft, versatile and cheap, definitely pick one of these up if you see 'em!

NYX Worth the hype mascara review

NYX Worth the Hype Mascara $10

This is a great drugstore mascara! It reminds me a lot of L'Oreal Voluminous. Simple, really lengthening and can add good volume. Will flake a bit throughout the day, but not bad. I've been loving this over my L'Oreal Lash Paradise lash primer, they layer really well and give me a total false-lash-effect.

Benefit precisely, my brow pencil | Benefit Cosmetics review

Precisely, my brow pencil | Benefit Cosmetics $32

I freaking love this brow pencil. It's so thin and never snaps, the colour is pigmented but not too much that it's hard to apply. Highly recommend, I also love the spoolie and funky packaging.
