Summer Skincare That Really Works

Summer Skincare Favourites

I just looked at the forecast, and it'll be over 23 degrees for the next 10 days. LIVE IT UP BABES! Crisp fall air is right on the horizon and I flippin' hate it.

So in an effort to keep the mood light, here are about 10 items I've been using in heavy rotation for skincare on a daily basis.

Summer Skin Review

Best Tanners for Body and Face

For an all-over glow, I've been obsessed with St Tropez Marshmallow mousse tanner for the body, or Cocoa Brown medium-toned mousse. When I'm going out on the weekend or for any special event, I Top off my tanner with the Cocoa Brown Golden Goddess Shimmering Body Oil. It is glorious, providing a gentle layer of moisture and a stunning golden shine.

The MVP, as usual, is Vita Liberata Body Blur. Available in multiple shades, this blurring body tanner lotion is magic. It's an elevated version of Sally Hansen's Airbrush Legs, and honestly gives you model legs in an instant. The water-resistant formula dries down to a smudge-proof finish and is only removed with warm soapy water. It's great for evening out a patchy tan, whether you've sat outside too long or your spray tan wears off unevenly. 11/10

For the face, my iconic Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanning Lotion lives true, and I've been spritzing the uber convenient St Tropez Purity Natural Glow Self Tanning mist on in between applications of the Clarins Liquid Bronze. It actually works very well, you only need a few squirts. The mist is BEYOND fine, so it takes some practice to apply just right on the face, neck and decollete.

Summertime Prep and Moisturizers

Much like full-fat milk, I often like to follow the less is more rule for oils and moisturizer on my skin. A thin layer of this NUXE Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Purpose Nourishing Oil works fabulously to soften the dry skin on my elbows, shins, knees and feet while also leaving a pretty shine. It's thicker than their original formula, and I think I even like it more this way.

For the face, I like to prep my skin for receiving moisturizer (post-cleanse) with a quick swipe of the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner. The alcohol-free formula has an unmatched amount of rose power: toning rose fruit extract, soothing rosewater, nourishing rose oil, and real floating rose petals. It hydrates and clears skin of leftover impurities, leaving it silky soft and prepped for the products you apply after.

I've been obsessed with Clarins' Extra Firming Day Cream which truly firms my tired-looking skin instantly. It has a thick texture that tends to smooth out any wrinkly bits and really provides a long-lasting barrier of comfort to dry patches. The satiny, silky finish and light floral fragrance are quite pleasant on combination skin.

Face Mask for Summer Skin

The Farmacy Honey Potion Mask is absolutely one of a kind. It's an extremely thick, honey-like substance (go figure) that heats up when rubbed. This exothermic reaction is one of my favourite skincare qualities, and I do believe that it helps to loosen dirt from pores and soften dead skin cells. Gentle rubbing and removal with a warm washcloth helps to make the skin extra smooth and refreshed. I'm all about the little details in life, so the fact that the silver spatula magnetizes to the top of this jar is GE-NI-US. Thanks for being so savvy, Farmacy! Love the name, too.

Freon Collective Reusable Cotton Rounds Review

Tools

So my fabulous friend Nancy is an extremely talented fashion designer, seamstress AND local Toronto maker of beauty accessories! Welcome, her tried and true reusable cotton rounds. These rounds come packaged in a handmade mesh wash bag that is super handy for keeping your rounds corralled in the washing machine. I love using them to apply my Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner since they're so durable, slightly exfoliating and help save on waste. Her fabric is organic cotton and the patterns are all gorgeous. Shop these reusable cotton rounds here.

I want to reiterate that Tweezerman makes the best scissors, nail clips and tweezers on the market. How cute are these cheetah print ones?! You can never go wrong with them. In addition, I've bought sharpening emery boards for my tools at Blur Beauty and Makeup Room in Downtown Toronto to fix and smooth out any knicks that might happen over time on the metal edges.

What keeps you feeling your best over the summer months?
