In May of this year I visited Savannah, Georgia and Hilton Head South Carolina with my family. It was a great getaway from a busy quarter at work, and I loved the warm, comfortable weather in the south. Here are a few things I picked up while shopping in the US.
One of my first stops was at Target. A.k.a. my happy place.
I think the most exciting purchase was the Sonia Kashuk dual-ended retractable makeup brush that I forgot to include in these photos. It's a staple in my makeup bag, with a synthetic foundation/concealer brush on one side and a fluffy powder brush on the other. You can buy it here.
Along with that came a little container of Aquaphor, and a whole host of beauty products since Target was running a $5 gift card promo with any $20+ beauty purchase in-store. Heavenly.

Another makeup bag game-changer is the Pixi Natural Brow Duo in Natural Brown. At $16 it is a good option for those seeking a cooler toned, taupe brown shade that comes in a slanted twist-up pencil, very Tom Ford. The tinted brow gel is phenomenal, so even though this pencil is a bit too hard and dry for my liking, I recommend. (swatched below)
I really went off at the Pixi section because I knew I wasn't going to go hunting for these items at home. Besides, $5 back on $20!
- Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pencil in Copper Glow ($12) - so soft and pigmented, quite shimmery
- Pixi Correction Concentrate in Brightening Peach ($12) - fantastic! creamy, soft, hydrating
Ulta finds:
IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream- Holy Grail status! This is a very highly pigmented makeup base with an SPF of 50+. Fair is a super light shade, perfect for winter and it feels incredibly moisturizing on my combo skin. It wears beautifully throughout the day and comes in an easy-to-use pump tube. IT Cosmetics will be sold in Canadian Sephora stores this month.
Free Birthday Gifts! Ulta is amazing with birthdays and even let me pick a gift a bit early. I received a small Urban Decay Original Primer Potion and Urban Decay's eyeshadow single in Sideline. This stunning greeny-gold-peach duochrome shadow is something I would have never purchased on my own, but I love it. You can see it on my eyes below.

I've been on an under-eye corrector binge so here are a few of my favourites, swatched:
- Tarte CC $30 at Sephora - Lightweight, easy to apply and more of a concealer shade once blended
- Essence All I Need Concealer Palette $6.99 at Shoppers - Very pink and waxy, best for deep blue eye bags
- Pixi Brightening Peach $16 cad at Shoppers (or Target) - Great glass pot packaging, thick and pigmented, darker shade
- Vasanti Wonders of the World A2 Peach $26 online or Rexall - My HG, more dry but so long wearing, crease-proof and ideal for layering with a more hydrating concealer. Comes with a fantastic concealer shade for the dace
Here you'll see a cute felt pouch that came with my Anthropologie earrings (love that place) paired with one of my best discoveries yet. At our hotel they had a little coffee and tea bar with these packets of True Lemon - Crystallized citrus. I am obsessed with pouring one packet of this lemon powder into a glass of cold ice water. It is the most authentic lemon flavour I've found in a shelf-stable powder or liquid. I've even added it into oil and vinegar to make a salad dressing! Can't wait to pick up some more. My sister and I popped into a Dollar Tree one afternoon and I came across these ah-dorable polymer clay fruit nail decals. They aren't the most comfortable since they come up a bit at the corners, but I love how they looked in my manicure featured below.
You're totally allowed to judge me for this, but I sometimes venture into the girls section of Target since an L or XL fits me like a glove. I fell hard for the Girls' Patches Vest by their art Class brand. At $30, this is a steal! Buy it here, and see it styled for Canada Day:
We stopped by the cutest community garage sale type shop where they were selling used items to raise money. I picked up a handful of vintage pins for 25 cents each. They even had a Canadian flag!
The J.Crew belt on the left was purchased in-store off the clearance rack, and the brown and navy one was a great find from the second-hand sale.
I'm a big collector of vintage scarves and jewellery, so the three pieces above were definite highlights. I also found a little gold leaf dish that will be perfect for catching rings or earrings.
Not yet mentioned: A pen from the Savannah College of Art and Design, and some Orbit gum - pretty good! |
Now that's a wrap! What kinds of things do you look for when shopping across the border?
xx
