Yayoi Kusama is a legendary artist. Her work is known around world and has been appreciated for decades. It is her 89th birthday today, so I wanted to celebrate by sharing some photos and a video taken when visiting her exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto earlier this March.
I purchased Yayoi Kusama's autobiography at the AGO shop as I was interested in reading more about her thoughts on controversial topics surrounding love and sexuality, which became more widely discussed in the 60s hippie era.

Kusama's intricate, vibrant, and sometimes shocking artwork is a product of her obsessive tendencies and hallucinations. While reading her book, I was transfixed by her adventures moving from Japan to the USA, hustling to make valuable connections and taking all means necessary to prove her worth and become a successful artist. From strange relationships, to (many) police encounters, Yayoi explains how creating art can help cope with mental illness, as she battled with numerous phobias and fears.

The next round of tickets for Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirrors exhibit will go live March 27 at 10am EST. I'd highly recommend visiting. Also note that the museum does give out tickets in-person every morning upon opening.
