Cafés, Crêpes, Cupcakes And Cashmere

There is no better way to start off the weekend than going out for Saturday brunch with fantastic company. Some of my fellow French conversation class ladies and I visited Celestin on Mount Pleasant Road in Toronto last weekend.
Il n'y a pas de meilleure façon de commencer le week-end que d'aller pour le samedi brunch avec des gens fantastiques. Nous avons visité Celestin sur Mount Pleasant Road, à Toronto la semaine dernière.

Overall I was quite impressed with their service and the quality of my meal...

always get suckered into the simple and clean displays of Joe Fresh makeup at my local Loblaws. After picking up a few of their products, I not only appreciate their display now, but also their impressive quality. Here are a few swatches of my favourite products from the brand:

Au centre-ville de Toronto

Last week I went on an early morning shopping trip to the Eatons Centre, with the beautiful Akkila visiting from uni in Ottawa. My day started off very well; I gracefully woke up before my alarm. Unless I'm having a bad dream, this never happens. So everything was all rainbows and flowers, until I was sitting on the subway and looked into my bag...

Yes, the battery decided to stay in my wall instead of joining us on our journey. Greaaaatttttt. iPhone pics and an extra few pounds to lug around. Ahh c'est dommage...

Shades of Bordeaux

The leaves start to change colour, tans fade, long sleeves come out, ahhhhh autumn has finally arrived.
Les feuilles commencent à changer de couleur, on porte les t-shirts à manches longues, ahhhhh automne est arrivé.

I love playing with deep, royal colours in the fall but keeping the look fresh with light basics.
J'aime jouer avec des couleurs profondes et royaux en automne et mélange avec des vêtements essentiels...

Striped Tee and Platforms

The popular chiffon maxi dresses and skirts provide a very chic and classy appearance without adding extra weight or warmth. This is key in the hot summer months, especially when you need to hide unsightly legs. Paired with a simple striped tee, the cute pop of pink adds a fresh twist to a basic black and white outfit.

Levi Cutoffs

Theres nothing like a good pair of jean cutoffs in the summer. As long as everything remains concealed, they provide a very laid-back, cool feel to any summer time look. These vintage Levis were bought at Urban Outfitters, as part of their "urban renewal" section where they spruce up vintage items and resell them.

BURGUNDY- The Colour of Fall 2012

It shouldn't be a shock to frequent shoppers hearing that the most popular colour for fall is burgundy. Almost every store has cleared out its summer merchandise, leaving lots of space for new fall arrivals! This has to be my favourite time of the year, not only because my birthday is around the corner, but also because fall fashion is absolutely amazing. H&M has an entire range of burgundy pieces, some of which I have happily added to my wardrobe. With the help of my sister's new found burgundy items, we have quite the collection and are so excited to start piecing things together for autumn outfits.
BUT, it's still summer! So instead of dressing up in pants and sweaters and dying of heat exhaustion, here are a few inspirational shots from the most recent F/W runways.

Visiting Alberta: Calgary Stampede

The Calgary Stampede celebrated its 100 year anniversary this year. Named the "Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth", the stampede was definitely an event to remember.  It kinda reminded me of Toronto's Exhibition, but about 20x better.

To sum it up in a few words, we watched many amazing shows, experienced the famous rodeo, had some great food, heard fun music, won cool prizes, watched the most intense fireworks ever and sported our cowboy hats with pride...

Nail Art

I've always loved buying nail polish and doing my nails. It started off as a few pink and red shades, and has now turned into a rainbow of colours and textures overflowing from my bathroom drawer. I've really gotten into perfecting my nail art skills in the past few years, and I'm definitely known for my intense easter themed nails. While looking through my photo library, I've decided to share some of my most favourite nail looks from the past two or three years. Expect some new and improved nail art posts in the near future.

Summer Trends: Runway vs. Realway

Spring/Summer 2012 shows happened a few months back and were not the most impressive or striking in my eyes. There weren't very many new and exciting trends compared to last years s/s shows. Most of the trends I found were ultimately carried on from the fall/winter 2011 shows. Nevertheless, I am a big fan of the current summer looks and have compiled a list of my favourites!

White
Such an easy way to feel fresh and stylish when the days are hot and sunny. When pairing whites, it is crucial to look at the shades of both pieces in different light- a more stark and vivid white will not pair well with a more beige toned soft white!
Runway:
L to R: 3.1 Phillip Lim, Derek Lam, The Row, Helmut Lang

Holt Renfrew Calgary Event

Last week, my family and I visited Calgary for the Stampede and to do some hiking in the Rockies. We stayed at my dad's condo for the visit since he lives there part time for work. We were roaming the streets one day and decided to stop into Holt Renfrew to see if anything was going on. To our surprise, the store was celebrating the Stampede in full swing. They had complementary popcorn and drinks, and a really cute photo booth!

 The props..

New York City

Just last week I went on a short 4-day trip to New York with my sister Lauren. It was such a memorable weekend, jam-packed with lots of shopping and sightseeing. We stayed in the beautiful Morgans Hotel which definitely felt like home, even after the first night.

Made in Toronto!?

Made in Toronto is definitely something you don't hear every day. But hey, Roots knows what's good.

I initially came across this bag:

Marc by Marc Jacobs Too Hot to Handle Satchel

and completely fell head over heels...

$398.00

I was crushed. Heartbroken by the near $400 price tag, with shipping, close to $500, for this dreamy bag. I knew at that point that it was up to me to begin the hunt for my "perfect black leather satchel" with:
-no excessive hardware, buckles, sparkles, gems, logos, prints, feathers, other tacky non-classy fixings.

Unless I honestly could not find anything else and this little baby happened to cross my shopping path in NYC, I might have to surrender the cash for such a timeless investment piece.

Now, about one month later, here I am browsing the Roots website for their new arrivals. I type "satchel" into the search bar, and this appears:

 Roots Selina Satchel

I couldn't believe my eyes. Even though it had a more rounded frame (the design quickly growing on me) and gold hardware, the "made in Toronto" label and pink satin interior completely won me over. It was on sale, and came to a much more affordable price.

Roots bag are truly timeless and are hand crafted to perfection. Seeing as how nearly every piece found in stores today is made offshore in Asia or South America, finding a home-grown (Italian leather) investment piece really does mean something to me. I toted this fantastic piece around New York with me and it doesn't cease to make me smile and feel proud whenever someone asks, "where did you find that bag?!".

Grecian Inspired Look in H&M

If you haven't already noticed, there could potentially be at least one piece from H&M in each of my looks. It just so happens that today, I am COMPLETELY covered in Hennes & Mauritz!
... didn't know it stood for that, eh?
The spring pieces at H&M won me over at first glance. I wore this outfit to dinner with  my mom and sisters at a great restaurant called Spice Route on King St. in Toronto.
Shirt, Shoes, Skirt - H&M
Bag- Vintage
